New Team Texas Google Group

Team Texas - Turning Texas AroundTeam Texas – Turning Texas Around

Hey fellow Texans,

We’re in the preliminary stages but are eager to keep the fire burning and the parasites to a minimum. Consider this a meeting ground for honest people who want to organize and turn Texas around. A few goals of ours:

To promote common sense and common honesty for common people

To provide a forum for independent minded people to discuss and debate Texas’ issues and offer creative compromises to move forward instead of left or right

To provide a forum for local journalism and for organizing locally to become active in your community – all politics is local

To promote political reform through fair ballot access, fair and open debates, initiative and referendum, same day voter registration, publicly funded campaigns, lobby reform and redistricting reform

To take a closer look at how we conduct elections

The Team Texas Google Group is not the same thing as the NEW site we’ll be launching soon. So have a great, fun, and safe Thanksgiving and don’t forget to tell all your friends and family to join Team Texas. By discussions, click view all to find your area and check in once you sign up. It just takes a minute.

New Radio and TV Polls

Hey folks, I’ve been getting reports of local TV stations doing polls and stuff and it certainly looks like Kinky’s winning a majority of them. If you hear of anymore, post your findings below with a link if possible. We can do this folks. Take some friends to the polls.

Houston Chronicle Endorses Kinky

Two ringing (but hidden) endorsements from the Houston Chronicle-

According to an article in the Houston Chronicle, the evidence is laid out as to who the largest donors to each candidate are and their motives behind such donations. Rick Perry’s donors range from corporations like SBC, who received their own special legislative session to pass favorable regulations. Chris Bell’s donors are mostly lawyers seeking abundant face time and priority tobacco legislation as well as an energy executive. Carole Strayhorn, perhaps the equal in unethical donations to Rick Perry, has accepted MILLIONS of dollars from donors who just so happen to have tax cases pending in regards to her current office, Texas Comptroller.

In regards to Kinky Friedman, the article proclaims:

“Kinky Friedman is truly independent, and his top four contributors show it… if your sole criterion is that you want a candidate the lawyers and car dealers aren’t backing, Friedman’s your only choice.”

Rob 1:30pm

Next stop Austin HQ, well the restroom first. Then food. Then Austin HQ after we pump gas. My brakes are totally messed up so a fellow Kinky fan from San Antonio, Laura is giving me a ride up to Austin. Big thanks. I’m so excited to meet Kinky Staffers and Crew at HQ and maybe they’ll have something fun for me to do. I hear the Kinkster’s going to be there watching the returns. Hopefully my wireless works. Stick around.

A Must See – Mass Email It To Everyone

Check out this interview and mass email it to all your friends and family along with this picture.

The interview is complete, lengthy, and detailed. Remember to tell your friends and family that they can vote today.

Everyone should write a thank you to the interviewer or perhaps even the Chron.

Will Young People Vote?

Four years ago, only 17 percent of those between the ages of 18 and 29 voted, meaning young people were about half as likely to vote as the average voter. If enough young people vote, the issues important to young people will no longer be ignored by our leaders. If enough young people get out there and vote, and bring their friends, Kinky Friedman will be our next Governor.

It’s happening. The past two days of early voting have shown an enormous increase in voter participation. It’s up to all of thus who support Kinky Friedman to do whatever is in our power to keep driving everyone we meet to the polls. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: we won’t regret an ounce of effort we pour on now, but we’ll be kicking ourself in the teeth forever – or at least until the next election – if we don’t do everything possible to Get Out The Vote over the next two weeks.

The Oldest (And, One Gathers, Best) Newspaper In Texas Endorses Kinky

And their editorial is dead on.

We find ourselves in agreement with Friedman on most issues.

He favors legalized gambling in Texas. Given the right legislation, we may also favor it, and we certainly would not be willing to dismiss it out of hand as some other candidates do.

Friedman favors reforming Texas education by reducing the rigid adherence to standardized tests as the sole measure of success. Those tests have simply not produced better-educated Texas students — just students somewhat more adept at taking specific tests but arguably less adept at everything else.

Friedman is for smaller, more efficient government.

He is for stricter control of the Texas-Mexico border.

He is for broader health-care guarantees for the poor, especially for children.

Friedman is for maximum personal freedom for all Texans. Translate that to mean he’s for gay rights and against the Texas ban on gay marriage.

But, having said all that, Friedman’s real strength is much simpler. It lies in what he is not — he is not a traditional, party-affiliated, lobby-financed Texas pol.

He is not Rick Perry or Chris Bell or Carole Keeton Strayhorn, all of whom are running multimillion-dollar campaigns paid for by people who expect something in return.
