New Radio and TV Polls

Hey folks, I’ve been getting reports of local TV stations doing polls and stuff and it certainly looks like Kinky’s winning a majority of them. If you hear of anymore, post your findings below with a link if possible. We can do this folks. Take some friends to the polls.

Day 2: Pomeranians Against Perry

Today Danni and I (and, por supuesto, GB and Moby) attended events in Corpus Christi, Portland, Beeville, Goliad, and Victoria. Every one of these events uniquely affirmed my belief that Kinky Friedman is going to win this election.

Here’s why, in a nutshell: I think there are more reliable means than conventional polls when it comes to assessing the chances of a candidate like Kinky. I think the unofficial polls Kinky’s walked away with consistently throughout the election mean something big is happening in Texas politics. I think, in other words, that the assumption made by every major scientific poll – that the only people who will vote in this election are people who voted in the last one – is wrong, and will be proven so in less than a week.

Hey, Get Off That Fence

Here’s how my conversations with fence-sitters and undecideds about Kinky Friedman usually go.

Any random person: What’s the big deal about him anyway? Where does he stand?

You know the first thing he’s gonna do when he gets elected….demand a recount. He says never re-elect anyone, including himself. The second thing is install a listed phone number to his office where you and me can call during certain hours everyday and speak directly with him to talk about the issues that are bothering us. I’ve even read somewhere he would try to start a Texas Radio talk show with these calls to reconnect with the people of Texas, his only special interest group. Did you know he recently returned a large contribution from some Houston special interest group?

Most of the people who haven’t researched the race but plan to vote are already convinced by this point, but many continue:

Any random person: Yeah but an Independent can’t win in Texas.

UPDATE: Early Voting Participation Continues To Impress

The following is attributable to Rob, who has lent us his research prowess here and whose info can also be found at Texas Gone Kinky. If these turnout rates continue, Kinky Friedman will be elected Governor. It’s up to us to keep people voting, as many of them as possible, throughout early voting. Eventually, the mainstream media will pick up on this; let’s give them something to talk about.

Caveat: Dallas and Tarrant County both didn’t start voting until Monday (the other three started on Saturday) in 2002, so the data from there comes from their first two days of voting, not from the first two overall. By the same logic, Harris and Bexar might be showing the huge numbers they are due to fewer polling stations being open on the weekends.)

It’s also worth noting that absentee ballot requests are way, way up over 2002.

Why Does Rick Perry Hate Ice Cream?

Obviously these polls are not scientific. But neither is Raspberry Fudge Pecan Taste Explosion. My point: both this poll and ice cream are delicious.

More straws are out and that means this week’s tally is in at Beth Marie’s Old-Fashioned Ice Cream and Soda Fountain on the Square.

Beth Marie’s Old-Fashioned Ice Cream and Soda Fountain is inviting customers to cast their votes in a straw poll for their favorite gubernatorial candidate. Kinky Friedman on Monday held the lead by 50 votes.

Independent gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman has a 50-straw lead over Democrat Chris Bell, who himself is 10 up on independent Carole Keeton Strayhorn. Incumbent Gov. Rick Perry is bringing up the rear with just 107 straws out of his 250-count box.

Governor of Texas? And Why?

If you’re from Texas and are registered to vote, who would get your vote if the election was held today and why? Rick Perry, Chris Bell, Kinky Friedman, Carole Keeton Strayhorn, James Werner, or are you undecided? It would be great to know everyone’s reasons for their vote, so feel free to comment.
