Rick Perry Doesn’t Offer Kinky a Job
**UPDATE Tuesday November 14th**
So apparently nothing has coming of this yet, and most likely nothing will. If anything changes, I’ll update.
**UPDATE Friday November 10th 5:35pm**
As reported earlier,
“There’s no appointment. They’re just going to talk. Hasn’t even happened yet, but Kinky is very open-minded about the whole thing. Said the problem with politics today is that everyone considers everyone else the enemy, so no one works together and nothing gets done. Said if Perry gives him the opportunity to do some good, he would certainly consider it.
But nothing’s happened yet.”
On Friday the 10th:
Kinky was on the Chris Duel Show today from his ranch. Chris was talking about a fund raiser KTSA was having, and Kinky made a $5000 contribution to the Red Cross to help San Antonio military families, which was totally spontaneous. He said, “I won the money from a bet on Lieberman, what goes around comes around.” The highest contribution the whole day, and in fact KTSA’s highest ever. Chris commended Kinky on his positive and motivational campaign.
Rick Perry will call Kinky on Monday. Kinky said, “I will not sell out. It has to be good for Texas, good for Perry, and good for Kinky.” He went on to say, “Rick lost the cowboys, and he lost the Indians, and he lost the farmers, and he lost the spirit of Texas,” speculating as to what this hoopla is all about.
So apparently, Kinky and Perry will speak on the phone on Monday. We’ll report back with any new details.
*UPDATE 8:20*
From Chris Duel:
“Kinky will tell us the full story on Friday at 5:35pm on KTSA 550-AM in San Antonio.
You can also hear it online at www.ktsa.com by clicking on “Listen Live” at the top of the page, in the center, under personalities.
Apparently, Perry wants to speak with him about possibly offering Kinky a post with the state.
Kinky told me it might involve safeguarding the rights of farmers and also stopping the slaughter of horses in Texas.
I spoke with Kinky on the phone for only a couple of minutes today and asked him to tell me more about it on the radio tomorrow.
Also, Kinky will be coming to San Antonio on Sunday. He’ll be at the Barnes & Nobles (San Pedro Crossing) on Sunday to sign his new book, “The Christmas Pig.”
I’ll be there. Come by if you can.”
*UPDATE 7:45pm*
Okay, this is how rumors get started. Prime example. This is directly from a beautiful insider:
“There’s no appointment. They’re just going to talk. Hasn’t even happened yet, but Kinky is very open-minded about the whole thing. Said the problem with politics today is that everyone considers everyone else the enemy, so no one works together and nothing gets done. Said if Perry gives him the opportunity to do some good, he would certainly consider it.
But nothing’s happened yet.”
*UPDATE*
6:18pm
More as this story developes. From what I’ve gathered, it might involve safeguarding the rights of farmers and also stopping the slaughter of horses in Texas. Kinky will speak publically tomorrow about it. I know he’ll be on the Chris Duel Show at 5:30 pm on Friday the 10th on San Antonio’s KTSA 550 AM. You can listen online at www.ChrisDuel.com or go to www.KTSA.com and click listen live at top of page.

For what its worth, I say take it. We need people like Kinky. Kinky won’t be working for Perry, but for the people of Texas. There are good arguments for it and agianst it, but whatever decision Kinky makes it’ll probaby be a good one. GO KINKY!!!

Use the force Kinky. Go over to the dark side, do not.
Strong within you, the force is.
Waiting in the shadows, I am. Herh herh herh.
To be dog catcher ready,
Strong within us too, the force is.
But when corrupt ones flee
Too big a job for only me could that be

If it is a job inside the Texas Parks & Wildlife Dept. I hope he can bring on some ACTUAL outdoorsmen like yours truly
. Over at the TexasFishingForum.com, most of them voted for Kinky for the fact he would bring people like them on to correct everything this last legislature has done to the parks system.

Oh yeah…he should take a position, if one’s offered. Not only will it allow him to, at some level, make some positive effects in the system, but help show everyone the kind of leader and responsible man our boy really is.

Always good to serve Texas,
especially Texas Parks and Wildlife,
Managing Wildlife….wow…Kinky could run with that material for days…I’ll help too…
As for Parks… Kinky better move quick, maybe he can stop Goodhair from selling it all.
First item on the list…..put a stop APBT “pit bull” fiighting in Texas.
( Substitute it with gladiator sport…We can put two R & D extremists in a cage instead.. it would make a Mike Tyson bout look like the Mr Rogers show )

I agree…Go ahead and do it Kinky! Wouldn’t it be FANTASTIC if he is allowed to go and work for the people ! We need him as soon as possible…Taking care of the state parks and animals is something that really needs to be done and I can think of no one more qualified than Mr.Friedman. Best of Luck! I will be listening to Chris Duel online if I can…Too bad he didn’t air his show in the Dallas area! Please keep me posted!

I remain skeptical about this! Kinky finished in 4th place, with only 550,000 votes. Why wouldn’t Perry try and connect with the Strayhorn and Bell supporters. I think Kinky had more bang for the buck with regards to money spent vs people voting, maybe Perry is trying to understand this, I do not know! But I can’t imagine why he wants to speak with Kinky.
I’d rather see Kinky doing Talk Radio about issues of Texas from an Independent standpoint! Which would give Kinky a “bullypulpit” or put another way, a “soapbox” where he can air his points heard and to make this great state better!
Far as I am concerned, Democrats and Republicans are one in the same! Just a different name/title!
I will never vote straight ticket again! Incumbent BEWARE!
YodaTex, you crack me up! Nice comment! Thanks for the Humor!

He’d ask Kinky because he’s now a huge cultural icon, and those votes he got, while not enough to take office, consisted of hundreds of thousands of first-time voters. Perry’s no fool. he realizes what’s started. Kinky now is a symbol of the anti-Perry….he wants to try and make peace with the opposition elements in the state, for now at least, by doing this.
Hey…if it means our farmers and/or wildlife reserves get a good man…why not? “Why the Hell not?’

I think Perry would be wise (for once) to offer the Kinkster an appoitment to office, and Kinky would be wise to evaluate the position and see if he could serve the people more by being on the inside… Either way its his choice, and I respect his judement. Deep down though, I hope there is room enough in stuffy Austin for someone who really gives a damn!

Cautiously optomistic here.
I’m not too sure what kind of actual authority Perry would give him. Understand that all of Perry’s appointments up until now were based on patronage of the worst kind. I don’t see him changing his spots that quickly.
Still, I am so desperate to see change in this state that I think it should be considered carefully.
Kinky is a wise man. I’m sure he will make the right decision.

The fly in ointment
When a fly lays its eggs even in a dead skunk you soon have a lot of flies. If Kinky should be in a position of policy making at any state level he will be an insider and have access to other policy makers that just may appreciate a no bullshit honest approach. I wouldn’t consider this as his going to the dark side but proof that he cares to serve the public and I think he knows now to watch his backside from this recent election.

If you want to follow Kinky’s example, the San Antonio Red Cross website is
http://www.saredcross.org
Credit-card donations of ANY amount are accepted online 24/7.
Where it says “Select one of the following”, scroll down to AFES Radiothon.
There’s even a space for you to say “in honor of Kinky”!

Hopefully it works out and Kinky does hold some sort of position. This gives him an office of sorts and the possibility to build up the independent momentum for another run and or support of others seeking office. No one can complain after this that he doesn’t have any experience serving the State.
I love the idea and wish him the best.
It’s good for him and it’s good for Texas.

Sounds like Perry did it to swing people to his side to me, not because he was really interested. It would be nice but personally, I would rather back Kinky again for next race if he is inclined to run again. I bet more people will vote next time if Perry sells all our public land to foreigners.
Megan Said:

That’s too bad nothing has come of it…Another publicity stunt for Perry. Maybe it will turn around but I have my doubts.
Ed Weirdness Said:

You all do realize that Perry won with less than 50 percent of Texas voters supporting him? Regardless of how many candidates were in the race, Hell; if Perry had run unopposed, he’d still have garnered less than half the votes. It’s my guess that Perry would rather have Kinky with him; rather than agin’ him. Why? Maybe because Kinky, and 550,000 pissed off Texans started something, something that refuses to die, even if we didn’t win. There’s another important election coming up in a couple of years,,, Kinky Friedman for President,,,,, yeah, sounds about right to me!
Luis Ledesma, Jr. Said:

Well, I am glad Kinky did not concede the race….He handled the situation as a true Texan. I believe that he should form a shadow Texas government. Kind of like a watch dog on whats going on within our state government that is not in the best interest of Texas and Texans of every race and creed!!! In other words, who needs a Perry job offer!!!
